Eating Ringside at Lucha Libre Taco Shop

While scrolling down my Instagram feed a few months ago, a photo of a wrestling ring inside a restaurant caught my eye. It was then that I found out about the Lucha Libre Taco Shop in San Diego. I added it to my list of places to visit the next time I embarked on the two hour drive down south.

My chance finally came this past Memorial Day weekend. And the taco shop did not disappoint.

The walls were plastered with Lucha Libre photos and memorabilia. The ring was located in the dining area of the restaurant. There was also a “Champs booth” with gold cushions.

Some items on the food menu stuck to the wrestling theme, including the Undefeated Seafood BurritoTap Me Out TacoKnockout Fries and Suplex Quesadilla. It was all charming to a wrestling fan like me.

My choice was the Queso Taco– a taco with crispy cheese and steak. The other choices beside steak were chicken or french fries. The taco also contains queso enchilado, avocado and secret chipotle sauce. It was the perfect size and was quite filling. I highly recommend it! I probably would’ve ordered a second one if I had more room in my stomach.

When I posted a photo next to the wrestling ring, a couple friends from San Diego instantly recognized the restaurant. They praised Lucha Libre Taco Shop and stated that the green sauce was amazing. When several San Diego natives are raving about this taco shop, you know it’s a place worth trying, despite the many taco shops in the area.

The Lucha Libre Taco Shop currently has two locations in San Diego. You can learn more about it on their website.
